Following on from last week’s BRIT Awards, some of the biggest stars of from the world of music gathered for the first ever Global Awards with stars taking to the stage giving a whole host of excellent performances.
Global are one of the world’s biggest media and entertainment groups who own some of the UK’s most popular radio stations including Heart, Capital, Smooth, Classic and Radio X, and all awards on the night were voted for by members of the public.
Popular girl band Little Mix walked away with some of the night’s biggest awards including Best Song for Power featuring Stormzy, Best Group and Best British Artist or Group. The Best Male award went to Shawn Mendes with former Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello winning Best Female.
Not only does the night celebrate those artists who are performing at the very top of their respective genres, but also awards that artist who looks set to make an impact in the future. The Rising Star Award was presented to Mabel, following the 22 year old having a fantastic year with three singles reaching the top ten of the UK R&B charts. Her single Finders Keepers was certified Platinum following its success.
The night also presented several awards to artists who have excelled in specific genres including Stormzy winning Best R&B, Hip Hop or Grime, Martin Garrix in the Best Pop Dance category, Kasabian with the Best Indie award and Rita Ora with Best Pop award. One Direction’s Liam Payne won the Global Special Award which is presented to the artist who has had a fantastic year.
Rita Ora also put in one of the best performances of the evening when she gave a rendition of her new song Anywhere. Classical music legend Andrea Bocelli also gave a stunning performance before taking to the stage to receive his Best Classical Artist award.
