One of the most inspirational leaders of recent times, Lord Coe was the muscle behind London's successful bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. As a result, he would chair the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games, helping to put on one of the most memorable events in British event history.
Prior to holding leading roles within Olympic sport, Lord Coe was one of the most renowned track and field athletes in sporting history. As a middle-distance runner, he set three Olympic records - one in the 800 metres which were only broken in 1997. He finished his career with four Olympic gold medals and was later inducted into the IAAF Hall of Fame on its inauguration in 2012.
Directly after finishing his athletics career, Coe was elected as the Member of Parliament for Falmouth and Camborne in 1992. He later became the chief of staff for the Conservative candidate, William Hague and was made Life Peer.
Due in part to his sporting achievements, and in part due to his immense organisation efforts for the London 2012 Olympic Games, Lord Coe was awarded the Lifetime Achievement award at the 2012 BBC Personality of the Year.
Instrumental in beating off stiff competition from Madrid and Paris, Lord Coe's diplomacy helped win Great Britain the honour of hosting the Games. He also managed to work alongside Edward Young and Danny Boyle to involve the Queen in a legendary short film, featuring Daniel Craig as James Bond, which helped kick off the opening ceremony in style.
In addition to his role as Pro-Chancellor and member of the governing body at Loughborough University, Coe assumed the position as President of the IAAF in 2015 having spent 8 years as the elected Vice President between 2011-2011. Today he is considered one of the figureheads of British sport and politics.
