A Round Up Of The 2018 Grammys

Last night saw some of the biggest names in the music industry come together for one of the most prestigious award ceremonies in the world of entertainment. The night’s biggest winner was undoubtedly Bruno Mars who managed a clean sweep of awards winning in all six categories that he was nominated in.

The ‘Album of the Year’ award was fiercely contested with rappers Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar tipped for success in the category. However, Mars’ popular 24K Magic album caused an upset taking home one of the night’s most illustrious awards. He added to this win with the Grammys two other most sought-after awards seeing wins in the ‘Record of the Year’ and ‘Song of the Year’ categories. His other victories came in the ‘Best R&B Performance’, ‘Best R&B Song’ and ‘Best R&B Album’ categories.

Bruno might have had a successful evening but the same cannot be said of Jay-Z who was nominated for eight awards, more than any other artist but left the ceremony empty-handed. Other winners on the night included Kendrick Lamar for ‘Best Rap Album’, Ed Sheeran with ‘Best Pop Solo Performance’ and Alessia Cara with ‘Best New Artist.’

Not only did the ceremony see plenty of famous faces receive their awards but saw stars take to the stage to give a whole host of excellent performances. One of the standout moments of the event saw Kendrick Lamar take to the stage alongside U2 frontman Bono and Dave Chappelle for a selection of songs, much to the delight of the audience. There was also a duet from Elton John and Miley Cyrus and Rihanna joined DJ Khaled on stage for a version of the single Wild Thoughts.

The night came to a fantastic conclusion with a powerful performance from Kesha. With the #MeToo movement extremely prominent in showbiz at the moment, she was joined on stage by the likes of Cyndi Lauper, Camila Cabello, Andra Day and Julia Michaels as well as the Resistance Revival Chorus for a rendition of the single Praying in honour of those victims of sexual abuse.

Host James Corden also took part in a hilarious sketch which saw him ‘audition’ celebrities to narrate the audio version of Michael Wolff’s controversial book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, which saw cameos from the likes of DJ Khaled, John Legend, Cher and even Hilary Clinton.
