David Bowie Dominates The 2017 Brit Awards

David Bowie Brit Awards

Every year the Brit awards get bigger and more glamorous, and this year was no different as global superstars from the world of music and entertainment, gathered at the 02 Arena in London. Stunning performances from the likes of Bruno Mars, Emeli Sande, Little Mix and the Brits most successful ever artist, Robbie Williams, kept audiences entertained during the course of the evening.

Crowds went wild when Ed Sheeran premiered a remix of his hit single, Shape of You, collaborating with grime artist Stormzy, and Coldplay provided a special surprise performance with The Chain Smokers.

On to the awards and David Bowie who sadly passed away last year, was the big winner taking home the best British male and best British album awards. Collecting the honours on his behalf was his film director son, Duncan Jones who gave a moving speech about his late father. He said “He’s always been there supporting people who think they’re a little bit weird or a little bit strange. He’s always been there for them. This award is for all the kooks and all the people who make the kooks.”

The other big winner on the night was Rag ‘N’ Bone man who took home the critics choice award and best British breakthrough act. The night will also be remembered as a night of tributes with George Michael also honoured after his sad passing on Christmas Day. His fellow Wham! Bandmates gave an emotional speech with Andrew Ridgeley saying: “His beautiful voice will live on forever as a gift to us all.”

Chris Martin also gave an incredible performance of Michael’s popular song A Different Corner which included a duet with the man himself who appeared on the big screen performing a few lyrics from the song. Prince who also sadly passed away in 2016 was featured with images of the star flashing up across the auditorium.

Girl band Little Mix, won their first ever Brit award with the best British Single and The 1975 took home the British Group accolade. Beyoncé and Drake won the female and male international solo artist awards, with A Tribe Called Quest named best International Group. Emeli Sande won the best British Female Solo Artist for the second time.

Katy Perry’s performance of her new single will go down in history as one of the most memorable moments in Brits history which included puppets of world leaders, Donald Trump and Theresa May and one of her dancers (dressed as a house no less) fell of the stage. All in all, a pretty normal evening at the Brits!
