Singer, songwriter and musician, Sam Fender is best known for his distinct high tenor voice and music characterised by a roots-orientated rock approach. The chart-topping artist is recognised for his albums Hypersonic Missiles and Seventeen Going Under, which have reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and number three on the UK Singles Chart, respectively. Considered one of the UK’s leading rock artists, Sam regularly headlines sell-out shows and has been on tour all over the world, including Europe, Australia and the US.
Widely respected for his song writing proficiency, Sam began writing music and singing at the age of 14. From an early age, he began releasing singles independently and experienced his first major performance at 15, at his brother’s open mic night. He began performing professionally at 18, at the Low Lights Tavern and as support for artists such as Howard and Willy Mason. In 2017 Sam released his debut single Play God, which premiered on BBC Radio 1. Whilst continuing to tour support slots with artists including Bear’s Den, Declan McKenna and Michael Kiwanuka, Sam experience his first breakthrough with his singles Friday Fight and Start Again.
In 2018 alongside renowned artists Khalid, Billie Elish, Sigrid and Lewis Capaldi, Sam was named on the BBC’s Sound list. During the same year, he released his debut EP, Dead Boys, which is credited with propelling him to mainstream success. Sam went on to perform Dead Boys and Leave Fast on the BBC’s Later with Jools Holland. Moreover, his popular single, Play God, is featured in the FIFA 19 game soundtrack. In 2021, Sam released his second album Seventeen Going Under, which topped the UK Albums Chart and generated the hit single Seventeen Going Under.
In recognition of his musical talent, Sam won the Critics’ Choice Award at the 39th Brit Awards. He also received the Brit Award for Best British Alternative/Rock Act and the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically in 2022. Furthermore, as a brilliant live performer, Sam regularly sells out shows and recently broke the record for the fastest-selling show at the Mouth of the Tyne Festival, which he also headlined.
