Inspired by a new wave of punk rock music in the late 1970s and 1980s the Kaiser Chiefs are an English indie rock band from Leeds who have released six hugely successful studio albums and created an array of hugely popular songs, including number one hit Ruby which sold over 461,000 copies. A song which came from their platinum album Yours Truly. Their five singles I Predict a Riot, Ruby, Everyday I Love You Less and Less, Oh My God and Never Miss a Beat have generated a combined sales total of 1.1 million up to August 2012. While still fresh to the music scene July 2004 saw the Kaiser Chiefs perform in Moscow, making it their first ever festival outside of the UK. A huge breakthrough for the band was performing at the NME Awards Tour in 2005 following in the steps of Coldplay and Franz Ferdinand who also had played the opening act position in previous years. This move proved to be an influential one attracting an array of positive media attention.
Starting their careers with huge success their debut album Employments was released in March 2005 and received critical and commercial success selling over three million copies and winning the band Three Brit Awards while also getting shortlisted for a Mercury Prize. Reaching number two in the UK Albums Chart and certified five times platinum the album was described by music critics as "quintessentially British, without pretension and most importantly, a whole lot of fun" and also "thrilling from beginning to end". Their second album was released in February 2007 called Yours Truly, Angry Mob and contained over twenty-two songs. The album reached number one on the UK Albums chart and forty-five on the Billboard 200 albums chart becoming their second Million Seller as well as the UK and European number one Airplay Hit of 2007 with Ruby. This lead to two sell-out shows to a capacity of 30,000 at the Earl's Court in London.
The band has seen huge success and supported the likes of Foo Fighters, U2, Green Day and worked with the likes of Girls Aloud and Pet Shop Boys, they have also played at huge venues worldwide. 2006 was a huge year for the band seeing them awarded with three Brit Awards for Best British Rock Act, Best British Group and Best British Live Act. The same year they also won Best International Group and Best International Album at the Meteor Music Awards and a Silver Clef Award for Best British Act.
