Charlie Sloth is a DJ, hype man, producer and TV presenter who first rose to notoriety in 2007 after winning Most Original Video at the CraveFest Awards Canada for the music video Guided Tour of Camden. Best recognised for his DJ work with BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra, Charlie presented The Rap Show on Saturday nights and the weeknight late show The 8th. He also formerly presented the weekday drivetime show on BBC Radio 1Xtra, from 2012 to 2017.
Since leaving the BBC, Charlie has joined Beats 1 and Apple Music, where he was responsible for curating music playlists. He also signed a deal with Jay Z’s Roc Nation and became the host of the Rap Show. Over the last decade, Charlie has released multiple mixtapes, such as The Big Boot, Secret Society, Hard Being Good, The Black Book, Hood Heat Vol. 1 and Hood Heat Vol. 2. In 2017 he released his album The Plug.
Considered a pioneering MC, Charlie’s freestyle brand, Fire in the Booth has been called a mark of prestige in the scene, attracting some of the biggest names in hip hop to perform, including Akala, Professor Green, Avelino, Devlin, Tinie Tempah, Drake, Big Shaq and Big Narstie, among others. In 2007, Charlie created a weekly online video series called Being Charlie Sloth, which ran for 59 episodes before being acquired by WorldStarHipHop.
