They bring an authenticity to the songs of the smash hit film, The Commitments in which Dave himself actually starred, and he has selected gifted artists alongside him to mimic the other characters from the movie. Having honed a passion for performing since the age of just 15, Dave Finnegan has since performed in 1950s inspired rockabilly and psychobilly bands for over 30 years. He played in bands including The Boneshakers, Sharkbait and Scared Stiff.
1991 was the year that Dave was cast into the limelight. He landed the role as the memorable, crazy drummer bouncer, Micah Wallace in Alan Parker’s comedy-drama, The Commitments. The film became a worldwide phenomenon and wiped the floor at the BAFTAs with four awards for Best Film, Best Direction, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing. It was nominated for a host of other awards at The Academy Awards and others.
Dave Finnegan’s film and television career took flight following his breakthrough role and he took a cameo role in 1992 movie Into the West, as well as appearances on the last series of the television show Nighthawks. After a break from the silver screen to focus on his music, Dave returned to the big screen with The Fairy Flag and The Spirit of Edradour. Dave has been filming action-adventure movie, Kingdom: Fall of Illandrieal, which is due for release in 2019. Not only did The Commitments open doors into other films, but it also sparked opportunities into Dave’s first love – music. He has performed in numerous soul tribute bands including The Stars from the Commitments which featured original cast members and now his own soul band and popular party band, Dave Finnegan’s Commitments.
During his music career, Dave Finnegan has had some amazing experiences sharing the stage with iconic artists and soul music legends including James Brown, Wilson Picket, Edwin Starr, BB King, Sam Moore, Steve ‘The Colonel’ Cropper, Dennis Edwards and Dan Ackroyd, to name but a few. His role in tribute bands has seen him travel to all corners of the world including the USA, Canada, across Europe, South Africa, Scandinavia, the Middle East, India, Japan, Malaysia, Australia, and New Zealand.
