Former members of punk parody band, Leyton Buzzards, David Jaymes and Geoffrey Deane formed Modern Romance in 1980 only three years after forming Leyton Buzzards. Seeing significant success throughout the '80s with a string of chart hits along with a gold-certified album and sales reaching 100,000.
After recruiting trumpet player John Du Prez, Everybody Salsa was released in 1981 the single successfully reached the UK Top 20 and they went on to make their first-ever personal appearance in a club. The following year they released the UK Top 10 hit Ay Ay Ay Ay Moosey and went on to score the number two spot on the Billboard Dance chart with rap variation Can You Move.
The band continued to release a string of Top 40 hits with a cover of 1955 hit Cherry Pink And Apple Blossom White along with single Queen of the Rapping Scene. Modern Romance released a compilation album in 1983 called Party Tonight which although only peaked at number forty-five in the UK it still became their most successful album to date reaching gold certification for sales exceeding 100,000 within six weeks of its release.
