R.A.S, real name Rod Snape, is a reggae artist, songwriter, musician, and lead vocalist hailing from Birmingham, UK. Known for his raw, reggae timbre and a stage presence that radiates energy and authenticity, R.A.S captivates audiences whether performing his own original songs or paying tribute to reggae legends through carefully selected covers. A skilled pianist and keyboardist, his live sets are rich in sound, soul, and spontaneity, making each show a unique experience. With a passion for music that shines through every performance, R.A.S has carved out a space as an original reggae artist while remaining deeply connected to the roots of the genre.
His journey began in the early 1980s when, at the age of 19, he started playing music in a family band. Largely self-taught, he developed his craft through years of dedication and performance. Influenced by the likes of John Holt - whose music was a constant in his home while growing up - he eventually went on to tour as a keyboardist for Holt, bringing his journey full circle. Throughout his career, R.A.S has blended a love of reggae with elements of pop, hip-hop, classical, and blues rock, creating a distinctive style that reflects both innovation and tradition.
In recent years, R.A.S has celebrated a number of career milestones. He has released two albums and a single, with a new album slated for 2025, led by the first single Jah British. His performance history is equally impressive, having toured solo in the USA, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia, and shared stages with reggae greats including Steel Pulse, Luciano, Buju Banton, Beres Hammond, Damian and Julian Marley, and Desmond Dekker. He was also a guest artist on Steel Pulse's Euro Tour in 2004, and has performed extensively across Europe as the long-standing keyboardist for the Israel Movements band, even producing an album with them.
R.A.S is a seasoned, authentic reggae act with a wealth of experience, musical depth, and heartfelt artistry. His live performances are powerful, professional, and rooted in a genuine love for reggae music. Whether performing solo or as part of a band, R.A.S brings a rare combination of passion, originality, and respect for tradition - qualities that make him a compelling choice for festivals, live music venues, and reggae events worldwide.
