Olly Alexander is best known for his starring role as Ritchie Tozer in Channel 4’s It’s a Sin. Lead singer of Years & Years, Olly, began his career in the entertainment industry as an actor. At an early age, he acted in school plays such as Guys and Dolls and The Caucasian Chalk Circle before enrolling at Hereford College of Arts. Inundated with offers to act in prominent shows, Olly left his Performing Arts course early.
He launched his acting career in the film Summerhill, followed by a role in the Academy Award-nominated Bright Star. Olly went on to appear in the Bush Theatre Production of The Aliens before starring in the West End Play Peter and Alice. Other notable works Olly appeared in include The Riot Club, Penny Dreadful, and God Help the Girl.
Following his dream of becoming a singer, Olly, joined Years & Years in 2010 as lead singer. The group released their debut single, I Wish I Knew, in 2012 and then, Traps, in 2013, achieving critical acclaim for the latter from The Fader and The Guardian. The single, Real, released in 2014, featured Nathan Stewart-Jarret and Ben Whishaw. In 2015, the group were announced as the winners of BBC’s Sound of… and their single, King, achieved number one in the UK Single Chart, gaining the group national recognition. Reaching number one on the UK Album Chart with their debut album, Communion, they released their final album, Palo Santo, as a group, in 2018.
