After years of running riot at school, teasing his teachers and classmates with his cheeky charm, Austin made a splash in the 70s at the Search for a Star talent contest at Blighty’s comedy and cabaret club. The show brought him widespread attention on the comedy scene and he soon found himself supporting stars such as Martha Reeves and Lulu.
Television writing, acting gigs and stage tours followed. He wrote jokes for the likes of Tommy Cooper and Les Dawson - both of whom are legends in the comic sphere. He has acted in famous British soaps, sitcoms and dramas including Taggart, Coronation Street, Takeover TV, Fallen Hero, Sandbaggers and The New Comedians. He even toured with The New Comedians for a six-week theatre tour. On the silver screen, he has starred as the funniest man on earth in Zemanovaload in 2005, alongside Ed Byrne.
Austin is a versatile act. He had already developed a contemporary stand-up routine to seamlessly phase himself into a new era when impressionists became a little antiquated in the eighties. He has delighted audiences throughout the UK and abroad as well as on various cruise ships, including the biggest cruise liner in the world: Oasis of the Seas. In 2015, Austin performed on the Caribbean Princess and on Fred Olsen Cruise Lines’ Balmoral on a trip to the Far East. In doing so he established a base of important corporate clients.
A superb after-dinner speaker as well as comedian, Austin Knight specialises in golf club events and other sports-related ceremonies. He has enthralled crowds at a Dubai 7’s rugby dinner in Dubai & Qatar. He has performed as pre-match entertainment at Old Trafford for Manchester United FC and is a regular entertainer at sporting events, having performed at an impressive 200 sporting dinners.
