Nile Rodgers is a pioneering record producer, guitarist, and composer credited with selling over 500 million albums and 75 million singles worldwide. Inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Nile established Chic in 1972 with Bernard Edwards. Originally named the Big Apple Band, Chic released their debut album, Chic, in 1977, featuring hit singles Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah) and Everybody Dance.
In 1978, they released the album C’est Chic, which comprised the hits I Want Your Love and Le Freak. The following album, Risque, produced the number-one single, Good Times, which later became the most-sampled song of all time and inspired Queen’s Another One Bites the Dust. The duo is also famed for writing music for notable artists, including Diana Ross and Sister Sledge, before the band split in 1983. After the separation of Chic, Nile continued to innovate music for artists such as Jeff Beck, Mick Jagger, Grace Jones, Bryan Ferry, Lady Gaga and Christian Aguilera.
Nile has also produced hit albums and singles for David Bowie, Duran Duran and Madonna. The mastermind behind the rock band for the disco movement, Nile has received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement / Special Merit Award and six Grammy Awards.
