Denise Leigh and Stefan Andrusyschyn, a talented opera singer and pianist duo, reached the semi-finals of Britain's Got Talent 2024. Both blind, Stefan was born without sight, while Denise gradually lost her vision throughout her life. Their remarkable journey and resilience have made them stand out in the world of classical music.
Denise, a soprano with extensive classical experience, performed at the London 2012 Paralympic Games opening ceremony, won the Operatunity competition on Channel 4 and played Gilda in "Rigoletto" at the London Coliseum. Stefan, an accomplished pianist and classical accordionist, also specialises in arranging music. He single-handedly arranged their audition backing track for Britain's Got Talent and collaborated with the music team for their semi-final performance.
The duo met under serendipitous circumstances on a Tube Train while heading to an awards ceremony, where Denise was to present and Stefan was to play the piano. Their shared experience of blindness has strengthened their bond. At the time of their audition, Denise was recovering from breast cancer, having found renewed joy in performing after the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In their audition, Denise sang "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" from "The Sound of Music", with Stefan on the piano, earning high praise from the judges for their talent and positive attitude. In the semi-finals, they performed "You'll Never Walk Alone" by Gerry and the Pacemakers, receiving accolades for their emotional and powerful performance. Despite not making it to the finals, their journey on Britain's Got Talent showcased their incredible talent and inspiring story.
