Book Goldie Today!Biography
In his thirty years active on the entertainment scene, Goldie has become renowned for his crusades on the electronic, drum & bass and jungle music scene, as well as his legendary role as gold-toothed bodyguard Bull in 1999 James Bond hit film, The World is Not Enough.
Though best known by his stage honorific, Goldie’s real name is Clifford Joseph Price and he has since attached an MBE to that title. The Walsall-born DJ, actor, producer and artist was one of the
‘founding fathers of drum and bass’
, and was honoured for his services to music and young people, when he was made a MBE by Prince Charles in 2016.
Goldie’s debut album Timeless was a landmark moment in the music industry in 1995 and won a MOBO for Best Album and Best Jungle. The year after his breakout album Goldie was selected to present the Brit Awards and the MTV Europe Music Awards, both in 1996. And just over twenty years after its great success in revamping dance music Goldie was awarded an MBE and said:
'It's a bit of a shocker but a very, very beautiful thing to happen. I think it also stands for what you can achieve - anything really.'
As well as being a hugely talented DJ and producer Goldie is a strikingly warm and genuine man, well liked by his legions of admirers as well as constantly being lauded by journalists and others who come into contact with the man. But Goldie is also a cultured man, with a well-trodden life, one that didn’t start out in the easiest of manners. Goldie was orphaned as a toddler and grew up in a children’s home. He has had his troubles in life but overcoming them has made Goldie a favourite on the entertainment scene.
Goldie first gained exposure for his work as a graffiti artist, but became well-known for his pioneering role in the 1990s rave scene as a producer. He released a variety of singles under the pseudonym Rufige Kru and co-founded the label Metalheadz before Timeless, entered the UK charts at number 7.
Goldie’s acting credit in the James Bond film, The World is Not Enough inspired further acting roles and opened up spots in Snatch, The Price of Air and Britain’s most watched soap opera EastEnders.
Goldie’s successes have brought him appearances on a number of talk shows including So Graham Norton, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross and Ask Rhod Gilbert. He was a Celebrity Big Brother contestant in 2002, a 2010 grand finalist on Strictly Come Dancing and was on Come Dine with Me.
More doors flew open, following his triumphs on reality television and he has been a panelist on popular comedy, satirical talk and quiz shows such as Never Mind the Buzzcocks, This Week and The Big Fat Quiz of the 90s.
Goldie has appeared on The Wright Stuff, Formula 1: BBC Sport and The Royal History of Pop as well as being on Sky News: Sunrise, Channel 4 News and This Morning.
