Marc Almond is famed for his musical career performing in synthpop and new wave duo Soft Cell, with Marc and the Mambas and in his own solo music. Formed in the 1980s, Soft Cell consisted of Marc and Dave Ball, and they saw immense success with their albums Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret, Non Stop Ecstatic Dancing, The Art of Falling Apart, The Last Night in Sodom and Cruelty Without Beauty. They enjoyed a succession of Top 40 hits and also claimed four Top 20 albums, before they secured one of their biggest achievements with Tainted Love- claiming No.1 in the UK, the Guinness World Record for the record that spent the longest time in the Billboard Top 100 and Best Single at the 1981 Brit Awards. In 1982, Marc also formed Marc and the Mambas, which ultimately disbanded along with Soft Cell in 1984.
Marc’s first solo album was titled Enchanted, released in the 1990s. Within this album, Marc released the song A Lover Spurned, which claimed a spot in the UK’s Top 30 charts. During his solo career, Marc played at venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, O2 Shepherds Bush Empire, Meltdown Festival and Wilton’s Music Hall. He has also released other albums such as Feasting with Panthers, Against Nature, The Dancing Marquis, Heart on Snow and Open All Night. Outside of music, Marc is a passionate Patron of Headway brain trauma charity after he suffered from a terrible motorcycle accident and he has also been appointed OBE for Services to Arts and Culture.
