Old Men Grooving brought 2015’s once in a series audition when they took to the stage at Britain’s Got Talent. The nation fell for the group and their enthralling live dance show which combined humour, fun and impressive dance manoeuvres. The judges were equally impressed and sent the group through with four yeses. After surprising the country with their utter charm and spine-tingling dance act, Old Men Grooving went on to refresh their act for a live semi-final appearance which saw them earn a place as Britain’s Got Talent 2015 finalists, a remarkable achievement from the ‘Dad dancers.’
Patrick, Phil, Bret, Fred and David were the five friends who surprised the audience and judges with their original and exciting BGT dance act, that led David Walliams to say: ‘You’ve made dad dancing cool!’ The five members are all dads and granddads who favour their comfortable cardigans but have an absolute passion for dancing which was evidenced in their journey to being Britain’s Got Talent finalists and since. Post BGT the super dance troupe have stunned crowds as wedding entertainment, for corporate events, televised shows and prestigious venue tours throughout the country.
Old Men Grooving is not a novelty act trying to prompt a few laughs. Yes, they are fun, and quite gloriously novelty, but they are fresh and innovative act in the dance arena. They are breaking down prejudices about the limitations on people’s ability to dance, particularly due to age considerations. You are never too old to dance and thus they have become one of the country’s most loved famous dance groups.
The members of the group all have extensive dance careers and pride themselves on their ability to surprise audiences with their talent. David was taught ballroom dancing aged 10 by Strictly Come Dancing’s Len Goodman, while Patrick was a backing dancer for Michael Jackson, and appeared in the Smooth Criminal video, as well as dancing with other music legends such as Lionel Richie. In 2014 the group formed when Sainsbury’s were looking for dancers to star in their online advert for Christmas jumpers. Feeling revitalised, the following year the group entered Britain’s Got Talent. Since their success on BGT, Old Men Grooving have been kept busy as they’ve toured the UK, performing at events such as the ITV gala at the Palladium, the ITV marathon ‘Text Santa’, the Ideal Home Show and at Kalasipalya Bangalore with Shivanna.
