Before making a name for himself in front of the camera, Richard made an impact behind the scenes, working as an executive producer on a range of programmes including Deal or No Deal, 8 Out of 10 Cats and Total Wipeout. In 2009 he joined Pointless alongside Alexander Armstrong as a co-presenter. The concept of the programme was created by Richard and he pitched the idea to BBC bosses himself. Nine years later the show is one of the BBC’s most popular daytime programmes, and a celebrity version has also been created.
The success of Pointless has to lead to Richard appearing on many other programmes including Would I Lie to You?, Have I Got News for You, Murder in Successville and Taskmaster. Well known for his high intelligence, Richard was announced as the presenter and question master of Channel 4’s Child Genius in 2016. As well as this he has become something of a sensation on social media with his ‘World Cup’ polls. The success of these polls saw Richard appear on Comic Relief in 2017 doing a live ‘World Cup of Biscuits’ poll with the results announced on the telethon.
