Sheila Ferguson is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and author who is best known as the longest-serving member of The Three Degrees. Having sung lead vocals on most of the group’s biggest hits, Sheila is admired for her breathtaking performances. Following her departure from The Three Degrees, she decided to fulfill a solo singing career, performing internationally, releasing her solo album, and attending several TV appearances.
Naturally gifted, Sheila was first acknowledged for her talent in high school and had her first single ‘Little Red Riding Hood/How Did That Happen’ placed with Landa Records. Recognised for her ability, she signed for Swan Records and released her first two singles for the label in 1965. As her label was in the process of creating The Three Degrees, Sheila worked closely with the group and appeared as a cover for the group before being asked to be a permanent member of the group in 1967. As part of an internationally successful group, The Three Degrees topped the UK Singles Chart and peaked at number two in the US, having gained many achievements which are still admired to this day.
After announcing her departure from The Three Degrees, Sheila took a break from music for nearly 30 years before starting up her solo career. Releasing her remake of the Three Degrees hit ‘When Will I See You Again’, she spent one-week listing at number 60 in the charts and started this chapter of her music career successfully. In 2004, Sheila released her debut album ‘A New Kind of Medicine’ which helped her gain many opportunities to perform around the world, and continues to be a highly respected artist within the music industry to this day.
