Suzi Jary is a professional vocalist and actor with over 20 years of experience. She performs a magical show in the voice of the legendary Karen Carpenter, closely emulating her classy appearance and distinct three-octave contralto vocal range. Suzi has performed in leading theatrical shows in London’s West End including West Side Story, Grease, 125th Street and Kathy Kirkby among others.
Karen Carpenter is a well known drummer/singer who alongside her brother, performed as a duo. They were signed by A&M Record in 1969 and spent many years on tour. Karen was first inspired by Joe Morello and Ringo star, which lead her to persuade her parent to spend $300 on a Ludwig Kit: not a small sum during that period. Her passion for drumming enabled her to teach herself complicated lines and she quickly mastered the traditional and matched grip.
Within a short period, Karen began playing highly complex signatures such as Dave Brubeck’s. She went on to Major in Music at Long Beach State and started singing at the college choir, where Frank Pooler noticed her distinct pop vocals and helped her develop her range further. Outside the duo, as a soloist, Karen was known for disco, up-tempo numbers and mature lyrics that demonstrated her powerful vocal range. Her only solo album titled Karen Carpenter was released in 1996 and sold one million copies worldwide.
