Anthonia Edwards is a talented singer from Blackheath, London. She has always had an interest in singing, ever since she discovered it at the age of 6, going to church with her parents. Despite being described as a shy child, Anthonia took the chance and applied for the TV show ‘The Voice’. After taking a break away from music, she went into nursing and graduated as a registered nurse. However, The Voice relit an old flame for Anthonia showcasing her ability, going on to be crowned as the winner of the eleventh season.
Anthonia’s journey on The Voice first began when she performed Katy Perry’s ‘Unconditionally’ in the blind judging stage of the show. All four judges hit their buzzers showing their interest in coaching Anthonia and her undeniable talent. She had the luxury of choosing from world renowned icons: Sir Tom Jones, Anne Marie, will.i.am and Olly Murs. After choosing Sir Tom Jones, Anthonia continued to impress, progressing all the way through to the final of the competition. In the final stages of the show, Anthonia was able to perform a duet with her coach for the show, Sir Tom Jones. He went on to say that ‘’her voice and talent rose above a very competitive field and speaks for itself’’. Anthonia battled it out with four contestants, being voted through to the final sing off with Olly Murs’ contestant David Adeogun. She sang Justin Bieber’s ‘Anyone’ to progress one step further, winning the competition
Her victory rewards her not only with pride and catapults her into stardom, but she also comes away with a record deal. Despite her love for nursing, Anthonia has explained that she will give music everything she’s got. She has also gone on to describe her love for the process and that winning The Voice has taught her a lot.
