Bruno Brookes is one of the nation’s favourite DJs, famed for his presenting roles on BBC Radio One. He gained nationwide acclaim as presenter of the UK Top 40 Singles Chart rundown, hosting the show between 1986 and 1995. He was also co-host of the popular weekend breakfast show with Liz Kershaw and presented the weekday teatime show until 1995. He also presented the UK’s first all CD radio show.
During his tenure with BBC Radio One, Bruno ventured into onscreen roles, most notably BBC 1’s Top of the Pops, Beat the Teacher, Love at First Sight dating show and Tight Lines the fishing programme for SKY TV. A testament to his popularity, Bruno launched many live network radio shows from his own home on the River Kennet to commercial radio stations across the UK., ’Bruno at the Mill House’. He went on to launch a celebrity-packed Storm Live - ‘The future has no frequency’ - the world's first interactive web-based radio station.
Since setting his sights on radio work, Bruno has carved a defining career as a popular DJ. He first sent an audition tape to his local radio station, BBC Radio Stoke, which caught the attention of the producers, and it was not long before Bruno hit the airwaves. Amongst doing small chores to earn money for equipment, Bruno worked his way up the ladder at the BBC, to join the BBC Radio One team. He initially worked as a stand-in presenter, covering shows for Steve Wright, before he became the presenter of the teatime show in 1984.
Outside of presenting, Bruno has also founded many of his own ventures. In 1995, he created the Radio and TV School of Excellence. Highly successful, the institution trained over 4000 students who wanted to pursue a career within the industry, with many alumni later securing roles on national television and radio. Continuing his affinity for business, Bruno later founded BBME Media Group and Immedia Group Plc. As CEO of Immedia Group, Bruno oversaw the successful growth of the company for two decades, working with clients such as Lloyds Pharmacy, Subway and HSBC. The company is best known for providing in-store radio stations and digital content for the like of IKEA and Subway.
A household name and well-loved radio personality, Bruno has claimed 47 poll winning awards throughout his career, including five Smash Hits awards and two Sony Gold Awards. Following such an incredible career, Bruno is now booked for a range of events and corporate functions.
