Dave Spikey is an English comedian, writer, actor, and film producer available for bookings through Champions Music & Entertainment. Well-known for his stand-up as well as his television work, he is a brilliant comedian and panellist with an eye for observational comedy. Dave began his professional career in 1990 when he won the ‘North West Comedian of the Year’ award. After this recognition, he became a regular on the club circuit supporting the likes of Cannon & Ball, Max Boyce, Eddie Izzard, and Jack Dee. 1992 saw Spikey team up with Rick Sykes to form a comedic double act.
Known as Spikey and Sykey, they were met with success appearing on Central TV’s New Faces as well as being voted the Best Up and Coming Comedian by the Manchester Evening News. Dave maintained his comedy career at night while working as the Chief Biomedical Scientist in Haematology at the Royal Bolton Hospital. He eventually became a compere and met Peter Kay in 1996. Together the fellow Boltonians put their similar comedic styles together to write and perform in Mad for the A6 and The Services for Channel 4’s Comedy Lab.
After impressing the media giant, the two of them were signed to write the hit debut series The Peter Kay Thing. At the turn of the century the pair were awarded the Best New TV Comedy award at the British Comedy Awards. Buoyed by these successes Dave turned to comedy full-time. Along with Peter Kay he co-wrote and co-starred in two seasons of the critically acclaimed Phoenix Nights. A comedic masterpiece, Phoenix Nights was a hit for Channel 4 and saw Dave receive several awards.
As well as Dave cleaning up awards. Dave, for his part, received his second British Comedy Award and a nomination for Best Comedy Newcomer. Phoenix Nights won the People’s Choice Award, the Situation Comedy & Comedy Drama Award at the RTS Programme Awards, and was even nominated for a Bafta Award. Following the success of Phoenix Nights, Dave embarked on a national tour launching his debut solo tour in 2003. He followed up this successful tour with two more tours in 2005 and 2009, all of which were recorded for DVD. Dave showed off his solo writing and acting chops, writing and starring in ITV’s Dead Man Weds. Co-starring Johnny Vegas, Dave had successfully established himself as a top-notch comedian.
