Classically trained from the age of four at the Yehudi Menuhin, Purcell & Charterhouse Schools, as well as the Royal College of Music. She sped through the Grade exams, registering the highest Distinction mark in the country at Grade 8 at the age of 13.
Lettice first declared her love for the violin at the age of three when she saw some buskers in the street near her Surrey home. Months of pleading with her parents resulted in them buying her a plastic violin, which she instantly rejected, then eventually a real instrument. Within hours she was picking out melodies. A glittering career in classical music beckoned but the classical world had reckoned without Lettice’s highly developed aptitude for rebellion. She enjoyed the more social and easy-going side of pop and Jazz music, that centred less around competition and seriousness, but more around the fun of playing music with her friends.
“Really, since the age of 17 I’ve hardly read music at all, I’ve just done my own thing. I love improvising, it’s so expressive and I can be really free when I’m playing like that, in touch with my emotions. I get these sounds that are almost vocal, like Hendrix did on the guitar.”
Lettice is world-renowned for her talent, the melodies she plays and her expressive sound, which never leaves a dry eye in the house, as she has a way with bewitching peoples emotions. She also packs a mighty singing voice and this helps when songwriting & recording too. Lettice looks like she is almost in a trance when she is performing, as it is evident that she plays for the love of the instrument rather than for the love of the applause. She has an exuberant and lovable personality and a natural talent for making people laugh.
After having such intense classical training for so many years, she then had the foundation and technique to move her violin skills into any genre, like; Jazz, Pop, Gypsy, Electro House, Irish Jigs and Reels, Rock, etc.
With Lettice’s friendliness and confidence, she is now able to travel the world ‘attracting greatness’, finding talented musicians everywhere she goes and spontaneously jamming in all sorts of bands.
