He began his music journey at D&B Academy of Performing Arts in Kent and then went on to be part of a singing trio named ‘Far Too Far.’ One of his band members being Marvin Humes who became runners up in season 5 of X Factor as part of boy band, JLS.
Auditioning with a cover of Ben E King’s ‘Stand By Me’, Matt made an outstanding impression on the judges winning his ticket through to bootcamp. Mentored by Nicole Scherzinger of Pussycat Dolls he learnt more of the industry and progressed to perform covers of the likes of Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars and Charlie Puth. His final performance covered Randy Crawford’s ‘One Day I’ll Fly Away’ and secured his place as winner of the 2016 competition.
Shortly after his victory, Matt’s debut single When Christmas Comes Around came out charting at number 3 in the UK Top 40, followed by his debut album Trouble, released in 2017 featuring his most popular song ’Sucker For You’ which has over 60 million streams on Spotify. Matt also attended The X Factor Live Tour in 2017 and featured in songs alongside Enrique Iglesias and Sean Paul which was awarded a silver BPI certificate.
Following on from his music career, he also made his stage debut at New Wimbledon Theatre in Madagascar the Musical which toured in 2018. The show is set to tour again in 2019.
