Initially gaining recognition during the late 1990s, the All Saints eventually went on to become one of the most successful girl groups of all time. Having started her musical career singing in the band Drive, Melanie’s impressive vocal skills saw her achieve considerable success as a singer. Having provided backing vocals for British electronic music group Dreadzone, Melanie soon went on to become a founding member of All Saints. As a group, All Saints enjoyed widespread success from the get-go, with their debut single I Know Where It’s At coming in at number four in the British charts.
International success soon followed the release of the girl group’s second single Never Ever, a song which achieved chart success in countries as far as Australia and the United States. Steadily becoming one of the most successful 90s girl bands, the All Saints band soon followed the success of their initial singles with the release of their full-length debut album All Saints. Two of the album’s most notable tracks, Bootie Call and Under The Bridge / Lady Marmalade became number one singles in their own right. Further tracks by the group, including Black Coffee, also achieved chart success.
The quality of the group’s musical output was further recognised in the use of their song Pure Shores in The Beach, a drama film starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Following the band’s break-up in 2001, Melanie soon embarked on her very own solo career. One of her most prominent releases, a collaboration between Melanie and Artful Dodger entitled TwentyFourSeven, achieved strong commercial success. In addition, Melanie’s 2005 song See Me was picked up as part of the soundtrack for the computer-animated comedy film Robots.
In 2006, Melanie again appeared as part of an All Saints reunion, working on further musical output with the group. In the years following the reunion, Melanie made several appearances for television. This included work as a presenter for ITV2’s The Hot Desk as well as working as a reporter on Angela and Friends. One of her most high-profile appearances saw her act as a judge on the New Zealand version of The X Factor alongside Ruby Frost, Stan Walker and Daniel Bedingfield. Following her successful career in television, Melanie soon returned to her work with All Saints, working on the group’s fourth studio album Red Flag. Having enjoyed an extensive career in the public eye, Melanie seems set to continue her career as a sought-after entertainer.
