Having joined forces with the likes of Rod Stewart, Sam Fox, The Drifters and Chaka Khan as a session guitarist, Nelson has proven himself as the perfect string-puller for a range of occasions.
He first supported bands in the 1970s when he joined the band, Fury on tour. By the end of the seventies, Nelson joined inventive British export The Monks, creating a hit single and album as the group enjoyed commercial success, especially in Germany.
The beginning of the 1980s signalled a change in direction as Nelson collaborated with progressive rock icon, Rick Wakeman. This brought together some of the best-loved musicians, including Time Rice, Chaka Khan, Cori Josias, Steve Harley and Ian Anderson.
Following this, Nelson joined Visage and teamed up with Ruby Turner, Phil Ramone, Cerrone, Jimmy Nail, Rod Stewart and more. He then formed Strange Cruise in 1985, another band who enjoyed success in Germany.
He also joined Spear of Destiny and Tina Turner in working on their albums. He also paired up with the Jeff Healey Band and toured with Debbie Harry.
Perhaps most notably still, Nelson had considerable success in the 1990s. He recorded and toured with legendary British band Queen and with iconic singer, Bob Geldof.
Many more gigs and sessions followed in the 2000s and in 2006 Nelson joined the Bonzo Dog Do Dah band, with Phil Jupitus, Aid Edmonson, Bill Bailey, and Stephen Fry guesting on vocals.
In 2013, Nelson helped to reform Visage, as they released a new album and toured Europe. He also joined band Hearts and Knives for a tour of the UK and Europe, releasing an Orchestral album in 2014.
