Harmonious string sections, stunning light shows, and epic soundscapes are hallmarks of Jeff Lynn and the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), a band that needs no introduction. ELO Experience brings the heady days back with their tribute act wowing crowds at private and corporate events. The Stage’s Derek Smith said: ‘This band shows great style and professionalism. A tribute that’s jam-packed with musical talent, the lead singer is a dead-ringer for Lynne and his musical entourage provides an ELO tour de force,’ Led by singer, Andy Louis, the live band is made up of keys, bass guitar, lead guitar, drums, percussion, four cellos, a violin, special effects and backup vocals.
With such a rich number of live instruments, any event would benefit from the complex combinations of electric and acoustic, bass and tenor, vocals and digital special effects. ELO Experience offers a soundscape as opposed to just music and will fill any venue with atmosphere. Making up the electric instruments is the lead singer Andy who has had an accomplished solo career with a voice hauntingly like Jeff Lynne’s. He is also a fantastic guitarist and backs up the electric section with ease. Steve Hemsley is the musical director of the band and is responsible for keys, special effects, and vocals.
Pete Smith is a bass guitarist and vocalist who has been working as a professional musician for most of his life. Lead guitar and vocals are performed by Jan Christiansen, a graduate of the Musician Institute in California, who is an absolute maestro on the guitar. The acoustics consist of Liz Stacey on violin who has experience leading chamber groups and ensembles in the North. Francesca McDonald, Rachel Hoffman, and Lana Mocharenko are cellists with a wealth of training and experience. With studies and performances for the Royal Northern College of Music and York St. John University, they are virtuosos of their craft.
Finally, the man responsible for bringing it all together with drums and percussion is Tony Lawson. Lawson is the backbone of the group with an international playing record and professional experience. Fans of ELO can expect to be thrilled with the likes of '10538 Overture’, ‘Evil Woman’, ‘Living Thing’, ‘Diary of Horace Wimp’, ‘Don’t Bring Me Down’, and of course ‘Mr Blue Sky’. These timeless songs are a must for any erudite corporate event, intimate birthday party, or as something different at a music festival.
