Toby-Alexander Smith is a BAFTA nominated actor and singer who is most well known for playing Gary Atkins in BBC’s ‘EastEnders’. Away from television screens, Toby-Alexander has a wealth of experience on stage and has played Frank Jr. in Catch Me If You Can. Having appeared on a wide variety of talk shows including Loose Women, The One Show, Secrets from the Square with Stacey Dooley, and BBC Radio 2 with Zoe Ball, he has much experience in front of a live audience.
Whilst on EastEnders, Toby-Alexander was part of a domestic abuse storyline which spanned an incredible three years on television. In recognition of his incredible acting ability, it was this storyline for which Toby-Alexander was nominated for BAFTA’s Must-See-Moment. He has also been nominated for a plethora of awards including Best Soap Newcomer by I Talk Telly Awards, Best Villain by Inside Soap Awards (2020, 2021, 2022), Villain of the Year by The British Soap Awards (2022) amongst others and won the Best Villain Award presented by Version Soap Awards (2021). He has also had roles in ‘Krypton’, ‘Flack’, and ‘Berlin Station’ and ‘Doctors’.
Toby-Alexander is determined to raise awareness of domestic abuse and healthy relationships and since 2019 he has been an Ambassador for Women’s Aid. He has supported the charity by contributing to their campaigns and events, speaking to challenge men to become aware of the important role they play when challenging the norms on misogyny, and eliminating the myths which are embedded in society as to how we respond to domestic abuse survivors.
