Claire Sweeney is a famous English actress, singer and television personality known for her exceptional theatre performances and her role as Lindsey Corkhill in the popular Channel 4 show Brookside. Hailing from Liverpool, Claire began her journey at the Elliott-Clarke Theatre School. Alongside helping her father at his butchers, she began performing at an early age making her debut performance at 14 in the Montrose Club. Showcasing great talent and promise, Claire moved to London to begin her training at the renowned Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts.
In 1995 she landed her first major acting role as Lindsey Corkhill in Brookside, playing the part until the show finished in 2003. This was quickly succeeded by prominent TV appearances in shows such as Celebrity Big Brother, Lily Savage’s Blankety Blank and a presenting role on ITVs Challenge of a Lifetime. Furthermore, Claire became a brand promoter for Marks & Spencer and an ambassador for Fashion World and SlimFast. She also became a forces sweetheart and entertained British Army troops serving in Afghanistan. During the same year, she released her album Claire which was a big hit and peaked at number 15 on the UK Albums Chart.
Demonstrating great talent as a presenter, Claire went on to Co-present BBC One’s A Song For Europe with Christopher Price and then gave an outstanding performance on the world tour of the musical revue Fosse. She was also featured on the album Give Me a Smile. Known for her frequent appearance as a panellist on ITV’s Loose Women, Claire also appeared as a contestant on the first series of Strictly Come Dancing. This was followed by presenting roles on ITV’s 60 Minute Makeover and I’m Famous and Frightened and then as host on BBC One’s Here Comes the Sun.
Some of Claire’s most notable performances include A Party to Remember commemorating the 60th anniversary of VE Day and her role in the pantomime productions of Snow White, Aladdin and her performance as Miss Adelaide in Guys and Dolls at the Piccadilly Theatre alongside Patrick Swayze. More recently, Claire sang at the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra with Carl Davis and played Velma Von-Tussle in the UK tour of Hairspray.
