Whigfield is the stage name of the popular Danish singer Sannie Carlson. Sannie is best known for her number one hit single ‘Saturday Night’ which was released in 1993, but only gained worldwide fame in 1994, one year after its initial release. Nearly three decades on from its initial release, ‘Saturday Night’ is still often played at family weddings and has even featured in an episode of ‘Derry Girls’.
Born in Denmark and spending several of her childhood years in Africa, Sannie originally studied fashion design in Copenhagen but went on to model. Used to being in the spotlight, Sannie was then convinced by a DJ to sing for the duo he was in. After nearly quitting the music industry, Sannie persevered and eventually came up with her breakthrough single which is now recognised all over the world by all generations.
When she was based in Italy, several of her songs entered the charts in countries all over Europe, including the UK, Italy, Switzerland, Norway and Denmark. Having gained fame throughout the 90s, Sannie now boats over 51,000 followers on Instagram and over 81,000 likes on Facebook, proving her popularity continues to increase today. Seemingly ageless, Sammie has been on tour with the Vengaboys and continues to perform for thousands of people on some of the biggest stages.
Sannie is the life of the party wherever she goes, there is no room she enters which does not want to get up and sing along with her famous ‘Saturday Night’ single. A refreshing performer, if you are looking for an enthusiastic act to brighten up the stage, look no further than Sannie ‘Whigfield’ Carlson to hire at your next event.
