Bleachers is an American indie pop act based in New York City.
Formed by Jack Antonoff, Bleachers’ pop music was heavily influenced by the 1980’s and the high school-based films of John Hughes, whilst still using modern production techniques. The band’s first single, I Wanna Get Better, was released in February of 2014.
Whilst on the road with his previous band, Fun, Antonoff began working a new project during his time in different cities. For about a year, Antonoff kept the project a secret before shortly releasing the single, I Wanna Get Better. This was released alongside the Bleachers website, social media profiles and a selection of tour dates.
The news of the Bleachers was first publicly announced in a Facebook post by Brooklyn music studio, Mission Sound, in May of 2013.
Antonoff has previously stated that Bleachers was never meant to be a departure from his position in Fun, and that he will remain in the band.
Bleachers full-length album, Strange Desire, was released in July of 2014, from RCA Records. Famous magazine, Variance, described their single, ‘Rollercoaster’ as a ‘brilliant summer anthem’.
Since March of 2015, Bleachers has been on its debut tour, Come Alive, which features Night Terrors of 1927 and other songs such as Joywave as opening acts.
The band has featured the fictional band, Baby Goya and The Nuclear Winters, in the film, Hello, My Name Is Doris.
