A leading hip-hop group of the early to mid-noughties, Blazin’ Squad lit up stages and screens from 2001 to 2006 with their tight harmonies and rap hits. They were the hub of the party as they brought a new slant to contemporary hip-hop. The boy band had six top ten hits in their prime, spending an impressive 60 weeks in the UK charts. There was no doubting that their repertoire proved hugely popular in bars, clubs and the homes of the British public. A ten-piece hip-hop collective, Blazin’ Squad brought a fresh new style to the genre and the camaraderie and rebellious charm they possessed took them to significant success.
With a togetherness that proved they were good friends, having a good time - people enjoyed watching the dynamic act reach considerable fame. It all began when their cover version of ‘Crossroads’, a Bone Thugs-n-Harmony original made waves and topped the UK Singles Chart. Once there, the song propped up the charts for a week and spent 19 weeks inside the charts. Their debut album, In the Beginning, followed. It peaked at number 33 in the UK Charts, spending 9 weeks in the charts. The album achieved gold status after selling records galore and helped retain their status as a major name in the British music industry. The album featured two top ten hits in 'Love on the Line’ and 'Reminisce/Where the Story Ends'.
The very next year, the band brought out their second album Now or Never. The album and their 2003 single, 'We Just Be Dreamin’ reached number three in the UK Charts while 'Flip Reverse' reached number two, proving extremely popular on the club scene. It still garners a significant following today and has racked up over 850k YouTube views to date. The song was used in the highly anticipated relaunch of Top of the Pops. In a dramatic performance, the band performed alongside a 25-strong troupe of hooded backing singers, before making a splash on the prestigious stage.
The band had further chart success with the likes of 'Here 4 One', 'All Night Long' and "Let’s Start Again" - the foremost fell inside the top 10 and the latter two made the top 60. A "Greatest Hits'" album followed and the band split before the end of the decade. After band member Marcel appeared on Love Island in 2017, the band were back in the public eye and made a reunion on Good Morning Britain. The meeting inspired a comeback tour, selling out shows around the country, including a performance at Koko, Camden. Now the group continue to tour together and have proven popular for corporate events and product launches alike.
