Having appeared on some of the country’s most popular comedy panel shows, Alun Cochrane first began to make a name for himself when he was nominated for the coveted Perrier Award for Best Newcomer at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Since then, Alun’s career in comedy has soared to new heights, achieving vast success in live comedy and television broadcasting. Alun’s debut comedy show, My Favourite Words in My Best Stories, was a highlight of 2004’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Proving to be popular with his Scottish audience, Alun’s act soon received a nomination for a Perrier Award. Following this success, Alun made regular appearances at the festival during the early years of his career, earning him further nominations for Best Breakthrough Act and Best Compere at the Chortle Awards.
With his comedy career steadily picking up momentum, Alun was introduced to a massive audience when he featured on the iconic television programme Never Mind the Buzzcocks. Increasingly recognised for his whimsical comedy style, further television appearances soon followed. He made appearances on Have I Got News for You, Not Going Out, We Are Klang, Mock the Week, 8 Out of 10 Cats and Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow. Having appeared on such a vast array of national television shows, Alun’s knack for comedy saw him enjoy vast popularity amongst comedy fans.
In between his appearances in broadcasting, Alun stayed true to his stand-up comedy roots. He continued to make regular appearances on the live stage, regularly returning to the Edinburgh stage. Many of Alun’s most notable performances, including Comedy with Sad Bits, Introducing an Introduction to Alun Cochrane’s Imagination and Alun Cochrane is a Daydreamer (at Night), continued to win him new fans. Building his reputation among some of the country’s most famous comedians, Alun soon ventured into radio broadcasting. He featured on several radio comedy programmes, including BBC Radio 4’s broadcast of 4 Stands Up. Alun also entertained the listening audience on Just a Minute and The Now Show. Not long after, he also found success as a presenter on Absolute Radio, starring alongside fellow comedian Frank Skinner.
