Tinchy Stryder is a world renowned grime artist, who found fame since his debut album, Star in the Hood was released. In 2002, Tinchy joined the group Roll Deep with Wiley and Dizzee Rascal, to become a trio of mega-grime proportion. Except at that time, there was no real name for what the three artists were producing, so after it was initially boxed into the garage genre, the trio established a new genre, and thus the era of grime began. Roll Deep performed songs like U Were Always which later featured on the grime trio’s Street Anthems album in 2009. By 2005 Tinchy was a mainstay of the new found grime music scene, building a flourishing platform for himself. Tinchy’s debut album, Star in the Hood, preceded his pop culture fame, and was released in 2007 to significant acclaim from fans of the emerging genre.
But it was his 2008 hit Stryderman that charted at a respectable 73 in the UK Charts. By the end of the year he was collaborating with major R&B star Craig David for song Where’s Your Love. From there, Tinchy formed further collaborations that gained adulation, not least his song featuring Taio Cruz, Take Me Back, which was a chart favourite and after hitting number three in the charts, spent 21 weeks moving up and down as a fixture of pop music. Two number ones followed, when he collaborated with N Dubz to smash out a song always destined to top the tree, Number 1. The song spent three weeks at number one and a total of 38 weeks in the charts.
Another chart topper followed, Never Leave You featuring Amelle. By this stage Tinchy Stryder was one of the biggest stars of the year. He capitalised on his success with his new album Catch 22 which peaked at number two in the charts. The album featured some of his popular singles that came before as well as new songs such as You’re Not Alone. Often referred to as the Prince of Grime, Tinchy went on to have a host of hits with his third album, Third Strike. The album was another chart success story and featured popular hits such as In My Steam, Second Chance and Game Over. From 2011 to 2014, Tinchy charted with seven more songs, including great collaborations with Dappy for Spaceship, Calvin Harris with Off the Record, Pixie Lott for Bright Lights and Wiley and Angel for Lights On. After a few years out of the game Tinchy is back, and as one of Britain’s best grime artists, rappers and singers, he makes for incredible event entertainment.
